It’s Pip here, ready to give you the lowdown on my first-ever city trip to Cologne. Even though I’m a German posh poodle by birth, this adventure felt like a holiday. I traveled with my pawrents, their brothers and girlfriends, and my grandpawrents. If you’re looking for paw-some places in Cologne, you’re in the right place!
Traveling by Car to Cologne
For us, it was only an hour’s drive to Cologne. I love sitting in the car and staring out the window, taking in the sights. Just a heads-up for fellow travelers: you’ll need an environmental sticker to drive in German cities. We parked at Contipark Tiefgarage and walked right into the heart of the city.
Sniffing Through the Shopping Streets
On Saturdays, the city streets are bustling with activity. I had to stay close to mom so no one would step on my paws. I met lots of other posh dogs, which was a treat! My mom has a bit of a shopping habit, so we visited many stores. My auntie tried on big dresses for a bridal party, which felt like hours (okay, maybe 30 minutes). Luckily, I was allowed in all the shops. Sometimes I had to sit in my bag, but mostly, I walked through the stores like a true posh pup.
Cologne Cathedral
I loved the Cologne Cathedral, and they loved me—well, the tourists did! I wasn’t allowed inside, even in my bag, but no worries. I turned the area outside the dome into my own attraction. Tourists couldn’t resist my charm; they petted me, took pictures, and watched me perform tricks. I stole the show from the Cathedral and became the center of attention.
Dinner Time – Finally, a Nap!
For dinner, we walked to Tacos Los Carnales. It was quite a trek from the Cathedral, so sometimes I let mom carry me. The restaurant was fantastic, with an urban vibe and lots of different tacos. Even my vegan auntie enjoyed her meal. As for me, I was so tired I napped through the entire dinner, comfortably laying next to mom on the bench.
There’s so much more to see and do in Cologne, but honestly, it’s not my favorite city. Maybe it’s just not posh enough for my taste. However, it’s definitely a dog-friendly place, and that’s something to bark about!
Until next time,
POPO (hugs and licks) – Pip
